Power Quality Monitoring

Our Unified IEM Power Quality Monitoring enables utilities to access current data on supply quality directly. Voltage quality characteristics are recorded by electronic energy meters directly at the point of delivery of the customer, and by specially installed power-quality meters according to EN 50160. In combination with central data processing, the system solution Unified IEM Power Quality Monitoring makes an important contribution to the improvement and documentation of supply quality.

The decoupling of transmission and distribution networks from the utilities has brought about changes of legal frameworks and the foundation of regulatory authorities concerning the documentation of power quality. Thus, supply and voltage quality are again becoming the focus of public interest. In addition, optimal voltage quality has become an ever more important precondition for a faultless supply of users in a vast number of industrial processes and in public energy supply.

Improving Supply Quality

In order to be able to obtain data on power quality quickly, it will become important for utilities to collect and evaluate information on power quality centrally, and - if necessary - to send messages to superordinate systems (e.g. customer service centers etc.) A power quality system which provides access to current and historical data helps energy suppliers localize and repair failures, and thus significantly contributes to the improvement of supply quality and reliability.
Unified IEM Power Quality Monitoring is based on the infrastructure of Unified IEM Meter Management and monitors supply quality on the one hand via the Echelon meters installed in the distribution network and on the other hand via the data of PQ-measuring equipment according to EN 50160. The installed Echelon meters form a dense network within which power quality of customers' installations can be permanently monitored and within which failures are immediately registered. Information on failures is centrally managed, and can be accessed and transferred to superordinate systems at any time.
