Street Lighting

Unified IEM Street Lighting makes it possible to exploit the energy saving potential of street lighting installations. Through individual regulation of lamp output and permanent monitoring of the lamp state and condition, not only will energy consumption be considerably reduced, but service and maintenance intervals will also be optimized, which leads to lower operating costs, while the level of safety and light efficiency stays the same. Moreover, the reduction of CO2 emissions contributes significantly to environmental protection.

Currently, more than 10 percent of European electricity consumption is spent on lighting. To this end, each year more than 2,000 billion kW-hrs are generated and around 2,900 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions are produced. Increased energy efficiency, also aimed at by the European Parliament in the framework of the Directive 2006/32/EC on energy end use efficiency, thus not only leads to a better exploitation of the energy saving potential, but also to a significant reduction of the emission of CO2 and other greenhouse gases. It is therefore also in the public interest to increase the energy efficiency of street lighting facilities significantly.

Innovative Technology

The setting up of an innovative infrastructure is the basis for the exploitation of energy saving potentials of street lighting installations. In this respect, Unified IEM Street Lighting provides a complete solution. Based on intelligent and remote configurable ballasts, it is possible to control every street light individually, to adjust its brightness, and switch it off if necessary. In addition, a permanent recording of the operating hours and the remaining service life allows a targeted optimization of service and maintenance intervals. On the basis of this solution, our system offers the following functions, while the level of safety and light efficiency remains constant:

  • energy consumption is considerably reduced
  • annual electricity costs are significantly reduced
  • a practical contribution to environmental and climate protection is made
  • energy efficiency is significantly increased
  • operating costs are considerably reduced

The control of street lights is carried out via a low voltage network on the basis of Echelon's robust and reliable PLC communication technology. To this end, the LON Server acts as the interface between street lights and the Unified IEM Control Center, where all software modules for the control of street lighting systems run.
